Things to Do in Myrtle Beach with Kids Besides the Beach

May 18, 2022      Destinations, North America, South Carolina

Can you believe we spent four days in Myrtle Beach and barely spent time at the beach! That’s because there are so many things to do in Myrtle Beach with kids, we wanted to explore more than the beach and we’re glad we did. Here are some of our favorite family activities from our trip.

Meet Celebrities at Hollywood Wax Museum

Have you ever wanted a picture with your favorite actor, singer, or other celebrity? Well you’ll have a chance at the Hollywood Wax Museum. Here you can show off your best pose next to the greats like The Rock, Bob Marley, Chris Rock and more. We especially loved all the cute props available to make your pictures even better.

Discover Underwater Mysteries at Ripley’s Aquarium

Most often when people think of Ripley’s, it’s Ripley’s Believe it or Not that comes to mind. We’ve visited the location in Key West but had never been to a Ribley’s Aquarium. My daughters enjoyed seeing the sea life and being able to feel the stingrays in the touch tank. My personal favorite part for the walkway where you’re walking through a tank and there are fish, stingrays and sharks on the sides of you and above your head.

Practice Your Swing Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf

If you’re into a little family competition head to Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf where you can choose from two courses. Each has a different theme and you can even do both. I won’t say who won!

Explore Barefoot Landing

Barefoot Landing was probably one of our favorite things to do in Myrtle Beach with kids. It’s a large outdoor area with shops, restaurants and rides/playgrounds for kids. We ate dinner here at Lulu’s and if you do you must get the Krispy Kreme bread pudding for dessert. My kids enjoyed the bungee trampoline and cute playground.

Walk the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk

Walking the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is an adventure in itself. Throughout the boardwalk there are food options, lots of arcades, haunted houses, mazes and even ziplining. Here is where you can also get the very popular spray painted souvenir shirts.

See Myrtle Beach from Above on the Myrtle Beach Sky Wheel

If you aren’t afraid of heights, see Myrtle Beach from a different view point and right the Myrtle Beach Sky Wheel. Located at the boardwalk this massive ferris wheel gives you insane views of the city. Each ticket is good for two go arounds on the wheel.

Brookgreen Gardens & Lowcountry Zoo

A little out of Myrtle Beach proper is the Brookgreen Gardens and Lowcountry Zoo. You’ll pay one entrance fee and be able to visit both. The garden is filled with fountains, a dedicated children’s garden with a play/reading area with books, and a variety of plants and flowers. If your kids like scavenger hunts at the welcome center you can ask for the Little Brookgreen Detectives booklet.

After experiencing the garden you can drive a bit further down the road for the Lowcountry Zoo. You won’t see lions or tigers or bears here but there are otters, a fox and some other animals. It’s a very spread out zoo with lots of space for kids to run around.

Head Back in Time with a Dinner Show at Medieval Times

My kids love the Medieval Times show. We first attended one on a trip to Orlando (read that itinerary here) and they were so enthralled the entire time. The show starts with the Queen being introduced and ends with jousting. During this time you’re served a 3 course meal but be aware since the scene is medieval times there are no utensils given and you must eat with your hands.

Enjoy the Rides at Pavilion Park

Riding the rides at Pavilion Park was one of our favorite things to do in Myrtle Beach with kids. You can purchase unlimited ride wristbands or pay per ride. There are two completely different sections here on either side of Broadway on the Beach. One side is geared towards younger children, I’d say 10 and under and the other side is for anyone 5 and up with some for only much older/taller kids.

WonderWorks

If you’re looking for things to do with kids in Myrtle Beach when it’s raining outside WonderWorks is the perfect indoor activity. We actually visited on a rainy day and the kids had so much fun. There are thrill rides, games, puzzles to solve, a bubble room, ropes course, arts and crafts room and more. The kids did not want to leave at all.

Hi! We’re The Hambricks

If kids live there, kids can visit! That's our motto and you'll often find us exploring destinations most don't find "kid friendly". We've traveled to 35 countries on 6 continents with our children since they were 10 weeks old and share tips to make it easier and affordable. But mom and dad are people too so we also write about solo travel, baecations and girlfriend getaways.
